Mission Belles Alumni

The Mission Belles are the former students and graduates of the Memorial Mission Hospital’s School of Nursing. From 1893 until 1971 Mission Hospital operated a hospital-based nursing school that eventually became the Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing.

Ask any of the Mission Belles who attended, and they will tell you that times and training have changed dramatically since those years. Being together for three years of training, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, created a sense of community for nurses and faculty that would be hard to duplicate today. These nurses are proud to say their education was exceptional and they want to keep their fond memories alive by using them in a way that will help others.

Mission Belles Alumni Committee

Past Chair of the Nursing Alumni Committee, 1953 graduate Margaret Freeman Anderson had both the dream and desire to see the creation of this fruitful task force. The main goal of the committee is to raise funds and support educational purposes for nursing. Since the formation of the committee in April 2004, the members have established the Mission Belles Nursing Education Endowment Fund. This educational fund provides scholarships to nursing students, several of whom now work at Mission Hospital.
