Accomplishments

Mission Hospital has relied significantly on Mission Foundation to help start and sustain many programs and projects connected to the Hospital and its broad array of services. This list is only a small part of where the $100 million in gifts and grants to the Foundation (since 1985) have been used to improve patient access, care and quality of services: 

  • Capital funds to help create the Owen Heart Center
     
  • Capital funds to purchase a second helicopter ambulance based at Franklin, NC
  • Capital funds for a new Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery and Mother-Baby floor
  • Capital funds to create one of the first simulation laboratories in North Carolina
  • Sustaining and program funds for the Fullerton Genetics Center/Laboratory
  • Sustaining funds for an annual summer camp for children with diabetes/asthma
  • Sustaining funds for Mission's disaster/pandemic preparedness program
  • Educational funds totaling over $2 million for bedside nurses continuing education
  • Start-up and sustaining funds for the Family Support Network
  • Start-up and sustaining funds for two mobile dental vans serving children in remote areas
  • Start-up and sustaining funds for the WNC Folic Acid Vitamin program
  • Start-up and sustaining funds for Camp Bluebird for adult cancer patients
  • Start-up and sustaining funds for the Mission Breast Program
  • Technical/Research funds for Mission's implementation of Electronic Medical Records
  • Program funds to help Mission's Stroke Center become nationally recognized
  • Entire funding of the Reuter Children's Outpatient Center
